Biography

Happiness is when what you think, what you say and what you do are in harmony

Hello there! My name is Moeinoddin Mahmoudi, a Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) in Structural Research Laboratory, New Technologies and Aerospace Engineering Department, Shahid Beheshti University, Tehran, IRAN  since April 2018. Our research projects are in the fields of design optimization of total hip replacement through the 3D printing technologies, as well as strength & weight optimization of lattice sandwich panels based on TPMS & FGLSs. My duties in this laboratory are lattice structures 3D modeling, 3D printing, FE analyzing and mechanical testing (such as 3-point bending and compressive tests), mostly. My supervisor is Dr. S.A.M. Ghannadpour (Associate Professor).

I completed my B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering (concentration: Solid Mechanics) in Jan 2017 and M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering (concentration: Applied Design) in Jan 2020 in Azad University of Central Tehran, in which I have acquired an overall GPA of 19.37 out of 20 (ranked 1st). My dissertation was entitled “Experimental and numerical investigation of bending and buckling in human femoral diaphysis with bony defect and internal fixation”. Besides, my dissertation funded by IAUCTB and had done for three years under the supervision of Dr. Hossein Mahbadi (Associate Professor), consecutively.

My 7-year research experience in “Solid Mechanics” and “Biomechanics” was a transforming journey which helped me arrive at the decision to consider choosing the fields of “Orthopaedic Implants”, "Impact and Injury Biomechanics" and “Orthopedic Biomechanics”. During my undergraduate studies, I was given the opportunity to conduct research in various fields. In fact, I have a superficial knowledge in fields of “Energy Harvesting”, “Piezoelectric Materials”, “Composite Materials”, “Solid Mechanics” and “MEMS”. In addition to working in several engineering companies, I stepped forward as an enthusiastic volunteer to offer my assistance to a research institute as a training supervisor, which gradually led to holding workshops, industry visits, and consulting student. At the end of my B.Sc. and during an interdisciplinary project, I was introduced to the field of “Orthopedic Biomechanics”. I obtained an invaluable insight from reviewing numerous papers and observing far-reaching effects of Mechanics on Medicines and this ultimately brought me to the decision to study in this field in M.Sc. degree's thesis. Also, I consider the acquisition of technical and general skills, as well as the wealth of experience I gained from both successful and unsuccessful episodes of my studies, among my most valuable achievements.

My fields of research & Main Focus

1. Orthopaedic Implants

Lattice hip replacement (e.g. design & strength optimization), Additive manufacturing for orthopaedic implants (Hip & cranial implants, spinal cages), Prophylactic internal fixations (PIFs), Bone machining, Placing implants

2. Lattice Structures (LSs) & its Applications

Additively manufactured lattice structures (AMLSs), Functionally graded lattice structures (FGLSs), Triply periodic minimal surfaces (TPMS) structures, Multi-morphology LSs, Strut-based & bio-inspired structures, Uniform LSs, LSs optimization, LSs in orthopaedic prosthesis, Lightweight structures, Lattice-core sandwich panels, LSs in energy absorption, TPMS-based interpenetrating phase composites (IPCs)

Other Interests

My past fields of research

Energy harvesting, Piezoelectric materials, Composite materials, Mechanical vibration, Computer Aided Design (CAD)

In recent years, I have successfully published and submitted a number of journal and international conference papers. My recent publications are “Numerical investigation of mechanical behavior of human femoral diaphysis in normal and defective geometry: experimental evaluation”, “Mechanical behaviour of femoral diaphyseal cortical bone using the computed tomography data: A numerical investigation”, “An experimental study of waterjet and saw orthogonal cutting of human bones: SEM fractography and surface roughness analyzing”, "Multi-morphology and functionally graded lattice structures as an optimized sandwich panel fabricated from photopolymer resin by digital light processing 3D-printing", and "Structural behavior of ceramic sandwich structures with strut-based lattice core: experimental and numerical study"
